Recipe Keeper Free is an easy-to-use Windows 10 app for organizing your recipes, creating shopping lists and planning meals. While other offerings provide recipes for you to explore, Recipe Keeper Free fills its library with your own culinary delights. The free app is available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile.

Recipe entry can be as detailed as you need, covering ingredients, serving size, cooking instructions, photos and more. If you need help building up your library, Recipe Keeper Free can import recipes automatically from popular websites. Imported recipes can be customized to meet your own needs or kept as is.

Additional features of Recipe Keeper include a shopping list generator that pulls ingredients straight from the recipe and a meal planner to lay out your weekly dining experience. The Recipe Keeper Free database can be backed up to an external drive or OneDrive. Recipes can be shared over social media or email.

Recipe Keeper Free allows you to store up to 20 recipes in your library. The free version is an easy way to keep all your favorite recipes close at hand. If your culinary wheelhouse exceeds more than 20 recipes, you can upgrade to Recipe Keeper Pro for $4.99.

Allrecipes

Free cooking game apps

Allrecipes is a free app, available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile, with over 50,000 recipes. Recipes range from salads to meat entrées to decadent desserts — and everything between.

The app's main pages highlight a daily recipe, your recipe box (account required) and a Dinner Spinner feature. While you can search for recipes by keyword, ingredient, dish type and dietary preference, sometimes you just don't know what to cook — that's where the Dinner Spinner comes in.

With this feature, you pick three variables for the dish (type, main ingredient and time to prepare) and it randomly generates a recipe based on those variables. If you feel daring, you can even let Allrecipes choose the variables at random.

Recipe listings include an overview of the dish, a list of required ingredients, nutritional values, detailed directions, and user reviews for that particular dish. Many of the recipes also have a Recipe in Motion feature that provides video directions to prepare the dish. The video presentation is brief but compliments the written directions very well. Some users report stability issues with AllRecipes, but our experience has it being a quality cooking app to have around the kitchen.

Yummly

Yummly delivers more than a million recipes to your Windows 10 devices that cover a wide variety of tastes and styles. The free cooking app is available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile and requires a free Yummly account to use.

The app features trending recipes on the primary display and a drop-down menu to view your favorite recipes, search for recipes, and access the app's settings. Filters are available to sort recipes by dietary allergies, cook time, cuisine, course, nutrition, techniques and tastes. Recipes are pulled from various online cooking resources and individual recipes include the required ingredients, nutritional facts and cooking directions. Directions are in written form and vary depending on the source.

Yummly offers a wide variety of recipes that range from Holiday Cookie recipes to Caramelized Salmon dishes and everything else in between. It's a solid Windows 10 cooking app but may be a little overwhelming to the beginner cook.

Big Oven 300,000+ Recipes and Grocery List

Big Oven 300,000+ Recipes and Grocery list is a Windows 10 cooking app that is long on name and long in the number of tasty recipes it delivers. On top of the huge in-house recipe library, Big Oven also supports adding your own recipes.

Recipes are grouped into collections and searchable by keyword. If you are at a loss as to what to cook, you can enter three ingredients and Big Oven generates a collection of recipes based on those items.

You can add recipes by hand or use the RecipeScan to snap a photo to upload it. Big Oven also features a shopping list generator that pulls ingredients from recipes. The grocery list is sorted by store aisles automatically and can be shared via email with others.

This free Windows 10 Mobile app requires an optional membership to access the grocery list generator, use the RecipeScan and to create a favorites list. The free membership also allows you to synchronize data between your mobile device and the Big Oven website.

How to Cook Everything

How to Cook Everything is based on the bestselling cookbook and was one of our Hidden Gems from a few years ago. The Windows 10 app delivers 2,000 recipes and 400 how-to illustrations to your Windows 10 PC or Mobile device.

The main page for this Windows 10 app features key recipes, the ability to browse recipes by categories, view how-to tutorials and check out the most popular recipes. Additional features for How to Cook Everything include:

  • Locally stored recipe and reference content — no network connection required!
  • Handy built-in timers are placed throughout the recipe steps and can run in the background.
  • Organized shopping lists are available to make it easy to buy ingredients.
  • Share recipes with friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Every recipe includes an overview, ingredient list, detailed steps and any variations on the base recipe to experiment with. You also get access to related topics to improve your culinary skills. For example, a pizza recipe has links to how-to content on shaping pizza dough or tips for foolproof pizza toppings.

How to Cook Everything is available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile. It is currently priced at $9.99 with a seven-day trial to allow you to test drive the app before buying. It's a very comprehensive cooking resource that is well suited for the beginning chef, as well as the more seasoned cook.

Set Bing's daily image as your wallpaper with Microsoft's new official app

People have been clamoring for a while to be able to automatically add Bing's daily image as a desktop wallpaper, and now Microsoft has delivered an official way to do so. Microsoft launched the new Bing Wallpaper app today, which will cycle new wallpapers to your desktop each day.

For many of our readers, the Thanksgiving Holidays are just a few days away and the mad dash for the grocery store is about to begin. From turkey dinners to sweet potatoes to a cornucopia of casseroles, it is a Holiday to cook for.

The Windows 10 Store has a host of apps available to help those in need of a little help around the kitchen or who may need an idea for a new dish to have on the table. Many are free titles and for his week's Windows Central Roundup, we will shine the spotlight on the top four free Windows 10 cooking apps.

As we do with every roundup, you guys and gals are invited to offer your recommendations in the comments below. If you have a favorite recipe, feel free to toss that out as well.

Allrecipes

Allrecipes is the official Windows app for the Allrecipes website that is the home for more than thirty million home cooks. The main page for Allrecipes provides you with a list of recipe ideas, the ability to search out recipes by ingredient and easy access to your favorite recipes. You also have the ability to search for a recipe by keyword.

The ingredient search is a nifty feature for the times you are limited to what you have in the refrigerator or pantry.

Recipes cover the basics such as ingredients and cooking directions but also includes user ratings. You will also find a quick chart detailing prep time, cooking time, calorie count, fat levels and cholesterol counts.

The app is still sporting a Windows 8.1 feel to it (as is all the apps in this week's roundup) with an app command bar that will pop-up from the bottom of the screen. The command bar, accessible in the recipes, offers you the options to adjust the portions, pin the recipe to your Windows Start Screen, save the recipe as a favorite and view the recipe from your web browser.

While Allrecipes has a ton of home-grown recipes, I did have trouble pulling up Ideas on the main page with a connectivity error being displayed. The Ideas section is simply a collection of recipes that app thinks you may like. I was able to click on the Idea header and jump into the full listing of recommended recipes.

Allrecipes can be used as a standalone app or you can log into your Allrecipes account. Allrecipes is a free app, available from both the Windows 10 and Windows Phone Stores.

The Category Section divides the recipes up by meal type, occasions, key ingredients, beverages, Holiday recipes and more. You will also find about half a dozen recipes highlighted to the far left of the main page.

Recipes are laid out in no-nonsense fashion with user ratings, ingredient lists, step-by-step directions, nutritional guides and photos of the dish.

Allthecooks Recipes' App Commands offer you access to the Allthecooks' forums, newsletters, a message center, a shopping list generator and the ability to upload your own recipes. Keep in mind some of these features will require you to create and log into an Allthecooks account (free).

Epicurious

This Windows cooking app delivers recipes from the editors of the Epicurious and Gourmet, Bon Apetit, Self, Random House and other publications. It is also the official Windows app for the website of the same name, Epicurious.com. The app has a very clean appearance and utilizes the panoramic layout. The main page will display a Recipe of the Day, Featured Recipes, a Recipe Predictor, a Seasonal Ingredient Finder and a collection of recipe categories for you to browse through.

Categories for cooking inspirations include Holiday dishes, chocolate desserts, kid-friendly main dishes, gluten-free meals, stir-fry suppers, low-carb dishes, hearty sandwiches and more.

Additional features include:

  • Recipe box to store all your favorite recipes
  • Use your location to find what ingredients are in season near you.
  • Shopping list alerts
  • Voice activated commands to let you follow your recipes while keeping your hands free for cooking

Keep in mind that some features will require an Epicurious account to access.

App commands for Epicurious offer up options to return to the home screen, view your shopping list, tap into your recipe box and access the apps settings. You can pin the command menu to the screen and it will run across the top of the display, throughout the app.

Epicurious is a free app that is available from both the Windows 10 and Windows Phone Stores.

So Cookbook

So Cookbook is billed as the perfect Windows app to browse over 350,000 recipes from a wide range of resources. So Coobook taps into BigOven, Larousse and aufeminin to deliver some tasty recipes for you to try your hand with. The recipe selection covers everything from appetizers to main courses to desserts.

Cooking App Download

As with the other entries in this week's roundup, So Cookbook is the official app for the So Cookbook website. The main layout also follows the customary panoramic style of so many Windows 8.1 apps and offers the following sections:

  • Suggestions: Here's a series of recipes the app thinks you might like that will display a picture of the dish, cooking time and the number of servings to expect.
  • My Recipes: Your listing of any recipe you find, like and tag as your favorite.

You then have a series of recipe collections from popular cooking sites such as SoSlow Cuisine, sofeminine.com.uk, Cucumbertown and On Dine Chez Nanou. Some of these features will require you to log into your So Cookbook Account (free) such as the My Recipe section.

You do have the ability to search for recipes by keyword or by browsing categories that include appetizers, breakfast, dessert, side dishes and more. App commands seem a little redundant, navigating you to recipe areas already accessible by side swiping across the main menu.

Free Cooking Apps For Windows

Recipes follow what appears to be a standard format with a picture of the dish and cooking time/portion summary, ingredients and step-by-step directions. You also have a play button that will launch a timed, automated guide for preparing and cooking the meal; a hands-free walk through for cooking the dish in a manner of speaking.

So Cookbook is an attractive cooking app to have tucked away on your Windows device. It is a free, ad-supported app available from the Windows 10 Store.
